Derived from the Southern dialect, ROYD encapsulates the dual meaning of “Tasty” and “Look Cool,” perfectly reflecting the culinary journey we have pour our heart and soul into.

Royd offers a refined expression of Southern Thai cuisine, guided by season and grounded in Southern tradition. The cuisine reflects the natural rhythm of Southern Thailand—defined by summer and rain—allowing ingredients to lead with clarity and balance.

Beyond seasonality, Royd’s approach is shaped by the Southern cultural calendar. Food in the South has long been informed by beliefs, festivals, and inherited customs that quietly influence how dishes are prepared and shared. Selected dishes draw inspiration from these cultural moments throughout the year, interpreted with restraint and respect.

The Building

  • DIBUK Road

    In the past, Thalang Road used to be a business area and Dibuk Road served as the residential area for wealthy Chinese families during the tin mining era.
    The name "Dibuk" itself is derived from "tin" in Thai. This reflects the importance of the tin industry in Phuket's history and economy.
    It runs parallel to Thalang and Krabi roads standing out with its distinct Sino-colonial architecture and pastel-colored buildings.

  • Royd's Building


    Royd’s building, built in the 1970s with Sino-colonial style, was initially painted in pastel-pink to harmonize with other buildings along the road.
    However, Chef Mond decided to change the building's color into dark red in order to create a distinct appearance. This choice was inspired by the local flower of the Southern-Thai region called “Ginger Flower” or so called “DALHA”.

  • Why this building?

    Chef Mond's decision to establish Restaurant Royd in this particular building is influenced by his familiarity with the area.
    He has known this road since his elementary school days at Plukpanya school, which is conveniently located nearby.
    This personal connection and nostalgia likely played a role in his choice to contribute to the area by opening his restaurant here in Phuket Old Town.
